Most Accurate Cosplay - Itachi Uchiha (Naruto Shippuden)
Somehow, I look more like Itachi than Itachi looks like Itachi when I do his cosplay. I’m not sure how or why but I think I just got lucky that my face could match his type. Somehow in 2008, I thought about doing a skit with my brother who cosplayed as Sasuke in Akatsuki and we thought about performing as the Akatsuki version of D-Generation X. Some time later, I was introduced to cosplay wrestling by one of my friends and realized that if I needed to wrestle in cosplay, it might as well be as Itachi. I had to do a lot of mobility both in the skit and whenever I would rave in that costume during late night dances, and somehow it all stays together. I can’t really speak much about accuracy when it comes to craftsmanship because it seems pretty standard, but it was more that how I generally look that brought out a good impersonation. I just have to remember to stay in shape.
Most Difficult Cosplay – Reno (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children)
Back in 2007, I’ve modeled at 808 Cosplay in Hawaii doing visual-kei, bishonen, and EGA, but I never really got to do a character cosplay. Right after Kawaii Kon 2007, I ended up getting deployed to Qatar and spent 5 months either in the suck, or bettering myself when I had free time. I did not know how to sew entire articles of clothing but I somehow figured how to gather materials and add/subtract thanks to the fabric shops at the suks and parachute riggers respectively. After installing the zipper, I used my Wiley X sunglasses that I got issued, bought a white dress shirt and washed it with colors and I was pretty much done. I ended up having to buy a pre-made Reno wig but it ended up smelling like rotten fish when I received it. I ended up washing it and then using got2beglued. The wig kept its form when I premiered it at a Final Fantasy photoshoot and at Izumicon 2007, but it could only keep being glued for so long. (note: Rave spray works wonders). I know there’s going to be a lot harder for me out there, but whenever I get out of Florida, I’ll overcome just as I’ve always had.
Easiest Cosplay - SephiEX Overdrive (SephiEX Series)
Easiest Cosplay that I have worked on myself would have to be SephiEX Overdrive. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a walk in the park, but the thing with this outfit is that it was created in my own image and I pretty much destroyed rather than create to where it works out. It would get hard though if I destroyed too much, which I almost did when another outfit I was working on caught “too much” on fire and almost spread to my battle scared dress shirt.
Most Out Of Character Cosplay - The Boulder (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
I like to joke around a lot at photoshoots. I haven’t payed too much attention to The Boulder in the series but I knew what he was a parody of so I pretty much gave my best Dwayne Johnson impression, and it works. FYI, Mick Foley (Mankind/Cactus Jack) voices the Boulder in Avatar.
Most Fun-to-Cosplay - Tamaki Suoh (Ouran High School Host Club)
I don’t get too many chances to act out like an idiot, especially with Rin around; however, Tamaki’s character acts out a lot and when I was casted to play him at the Ouran Tea Party during Anime Alabama, I pretty much nailed it. It did surprise me that I didn’t realize how flamboyant I really was when I did it, but what can you expect from the school’s craziest bishonen.
Sexiest Cosplay - Reno (Final Fantasy VII Advent Children)
This cosplay’s bishoneness is what ended up breaking me into fame at the first convention in Oklahoma City (Izumicon 2007). It was just too epic that before I started doing my show S-ENT, I’ve received so many hugs, glomps, yaoi favors, autograph favors, pictures, and back injuries (I tweaked my back before the convention). I went on to University of Hawaii Xmas to win Fan Favorite at their contest as well. No doubt, Reno is the smex.
Most Comfortable Cosplay - The Boulder (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Although a cosplay that was entirely commissioned by my friend and mentor (Hotaru230), I had to mention it because she somehow made everything to fit really comfortable.
Least Comfortable Cosplay – Kaname Kuran (Vampire Knight)
Another cosplay that was commissioned. This thing had too many layers. It did his job at being smexy but I felt 10 lbs heavier.
Costume with longest hotel room prep time - SephiEX Overdrive (SephiEX Series)
The rest of SephiEX Overdrive involved shellacing (not really) an older red wig to defy gravity, white face paint, and black lipstick. The process takes about 45 min. and heaven help everyone if someone messes it up during a spear tackle as I got to do it again.
Costume Garment you wear out of costume
I would wear Reno’s suit when needed. I don’t have that many suits available for regular functions. I also would wear wigs out from time to time as the military doesn’t let me keep my hair.
Favourite Wig/Hairstyle
Chop off Reno’s ponytail, remove the hardness of the spikes, and that’s what you get. I actually started wearing that style of wig to my raves that I DJ at. I also like wearing Itachi’s wig.
Favourite prop
Camera and tri-pod. No really. Every cosplay event I do I happen to videotape. Now in all seriousness, my electro-mag asp that Reno usually totes.
Favourite accessory
WileyX sunglasses. They do the job other than make me look good.
Ever been in a group cosplay?
Officially, I have modeled for 808Cosplay in Hawaii. Other times it’s just gatherings by the local convention kids.
Ever cosplayed a pairing with someone?
Romantic pairing would be KanamexYuki from Vampire Knight w/ Rin at Izumicon 2010. Although my brother and I became a tag team with the Akatsuki DX cosplay.
Pairing support=y/n?
ABSOLUTELY NO YAOI unless they are really Yaoi.
Ever been to a photoshoot?
As I’ve mentioned, modeled for 808Cosplay.
Ever entered a contest?
Some eons ago. LOL
Ever won an award in a contest?
My Top 2:
Best in Show (ARTafterDARK manga): SephiEX Overdrive
Best Skit (Izumicon 2008): Akatsuki DX
The Costume you’ll never finish
It’s more of a question about which costume I never will start. I’ve always managed to finish my costumes.
The Costume you’ve always wanted to make
Truthfully it’s a secret, but I will mention I talked about doing Meta-Endymion from PGSM for years now.
The Costume you’d wear if it weren’t for your body type
Probably Gackt almost naked, I’m too much of a manly man for that and I love my muscles.
The Costume that you can’t make for lack of money.
Right now, probably Shadow Moon from Kamen Rider. I’m gonna need a hell of a lot of Wonderflex the way I’m gonna do it.
