Full Circle Part 2

Kawaii Kon 2011 came to an end, some were saddened, and as messed up as this sounds, some were relieved.  What I meant by that was for most of us that worked the convention, we had one helluva workout, but I wouldn’t change the moments for anything else in the world.  After the show ended, Rin and I met up with Sakura and her group at Gyu-kaku and we had some delicious hibachi.  Rin’s been wanting Gyu-kaku for a while just like I’ve awaited Hawaiian barbecue for a year but we forgot what the restaurant was called until now.  Gatherings with Sakura and the rest of the Kawaii Kon friends were the reason why I wanted to stay in Hawaii, I hope Rin can see that someday as she’s not keen into living on the islands.  After Gyu-kaku, we sang some Karaoke at the classic kawaii spot of GS Studios.  This was Rin’s first time singing karaoke the Japanese way but still has yet to sing Japanese or other otaku songs (unless you count Claire’s version “Fly Me To The Moon” and FFX-2’s 1000 Words).  I got to fanboy out and sing “Kamen Rider Black RX” and “Long Long Ago 20th Century” and for singing in Japanese for the first time, I was somewhat of a big hit, then I sang “Until The Day I Die” and “Lights and Sounds” and not so much then, which I think I’m happy with since I rather sing in Japanese.  Here’s to being a future Kawaii Kon Karaoke Champion.

Rin and I did some more shopping on Monday and Tuesday, but somehow I ended up with a big case of food poisoning and ruined my mood for Hawaiian Barbecue, so that’s the last of Yummy’s and L&L for my time there *sad face*.  We went to Kaimuki for MechaHawaii and Toys n Joys to find a present for Rin’s brother and ultimately we settled on a Kenpachi plushie.  We also a Kingdom Hearts Sephiroth figure and the Japanese DVD of Cardcaptor Sakura for ourselves.  We checked out on Tuesday and did some last minute shopping before we flew back, on messed up seats of course.  I guess I can review now that although the hotel and flight were lackluster to say the least and I’ve received food poisoning from an undetermined location, the Kawaii Kon experience was indeed awesome as usual.

Back in Ft. Walton Beach, we immediately begin preparations to PCS to Lackland.  We say our goodbyes to Rin’s folks, our friends, and people at Hulrburt, then we storm out like shadow running from light.  It was weird leaving an area where there was a beach as I’ve always lived next to one, now the nearest beach is 3 hours away in Corpus Christi.  We stopped in Lafayette, Louisiana and again in Houston, TX but before we stopped at Houston, we messaged our friend Redeye from Gaia and had dinner and Buffalo Wild Wings.  I thought I would never see another B-Dubs again since Ft. Walton and Waikiki but glad to see a big franchise across the country.  I’ve got to say that Redeye was indeed entertaining and I can actually believe this guy is a tall mofo.  After rendering and uploading some Kawaii Kon video and resting up for the move, we took off again to Lackland, finally inprocessing what I can and now staying at an off-base hotel.  At this point after so much step-by-step, I would believe some folks will pick up why I’ve called this “Full Circle”.  It was known well from my past videos and blogs that Kawaii Kon 2006 was actually my first ever anime convention, and it was Kawaii Kon 2011 where I’ve started my break. However, Lackland AFB was the base where I along with everyone that goes into the Air Force, started their basic military training.  Now it is at Lackland where I plan to finish and depending on how the anime scene is around here, I may settle in beautiful San Antonio.

Well this took me a while to write and somewhere along the way, I starting writing I did this and thats.  Right now I’m working on getting an apartment while training in Adobe Premier and After Effects CS5 in hopes to improve my video production skills and perhaps make some AMVs.  Here’s hoping that I get the apartment I’ve been eyeing and that my job here will be a huge improvement than the hell I’ve dealt with before.  I’m feeling my soul heal now that I’m here but hopefully I get enough rest to fix the fatigue and be back to lead the charge in Sushicrowd.
